Largest Dutch BESS: GIGA Buffalo Project
Eneco Energy Trade
Collaborating with Eneco Energy Trade and their partner GIGA Storage, we played a key role in facilitating the technical integration, trading, and optimization of the GIGA Buffalo 25 MW | 48 MWh battery system located in Lelystad, Netherlands. Notably, this project marked a significant milestone as it represented the largest battery installation in the Netherlands at that time. Furthermore, it achieved the distinction of being the first energy storage asset to be pre-qualified in the Dutch aFRR market.

Kiwi Homes VPP: solarZero Initiative
solarZero
solarZero deloyed a vast fleet of 15,000 solar and battery systems in New Zealand households. This initiative aimed to evaluate the potential of aggregating this fleet into a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), participating in FIR and SIR ancillary service markets. Collaboratively, we developed trading analytics to assess available capacity and its market value, enabling strategic bids in the New Zealand Electricity Market's FIR and SIR ancillary service sectors. solarZero was fully acquired by Blackrock Real Assets.
-
BESS Valuation: Co-location with Solar Projects in New Zealand
Helios Energy
Helios Energy boasts a development pipeline exceeding 1GW of solar PV across New Zealand. In collaboration with Helios, we assess the strategic integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at diverse locations. This involves crafting the business case and financial valuation for co-located BESS, supporting the evolution of Helios from a solar-only focus to a comprehensive solar and battery developer in New Zealand.
-
Nordic Flex Aggregation: BESS Fleet Rollout
Sympower
In support of Sympower’s Nordic expansion, we focused on advancing BESS projects in Finland and beyond. This initiative included managing strategic BESS partnerships, facilitating new market entries, and supporting Sympower’s broader development strategy in the region. By aligning with local energy goals and optimizing expansion efforts, we contributed to a robust framework for Sympower’s continued growth across the Nordic countries.
-
C&I Flex: Heineken E-Boiler Integration
Eneco Energy Trade
In collaboration with Eneco Energy Trade and Heineken, we supported the cross-company integration of the E-Boiler into Eneco's energy flexibility portfolio. Our primary focus was on the successful delivery of the project components of connecting the asset into Eneco’s energy flex portfolio and developing the trading logic to generate revenue from the flexibility resource. This strategic integration positions the E-Boiler for active participation in the Dutch Energy and Flexibility markets, contributing to the transition away from fossil-fuel-based brewing.
-
Renewable Energy Policy: BESS Advisory
Helios Energy
“Measures for Transition to an Expanded and Highly Renewable Electricity System" is a policy consultation requested by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. Helios prepared a submission, and we contributed by emphasizing the inclusion of battery storage and advocating for the consideration of energy flexibility requirements in the evolving landscape.
-
Trading Integration BESS: iwell Megacube Project
Eneco Energy Trade
In collaboration with Eneco Energy Trade and iWell, we contributed to the smooth implementation of technical integration and trading optimization for the iWell Megacube 7 MW | 14 MWh battery system in Utrecht, Netherlands. This involved integrating Eneco and iWell systems to actively trade the BESS on FCR, aFRR, and intraday markets, showcasing the BESS Power response for effective product activations.
-
Flexibility Product Expansion BESS: S4 Energy Project
Eneco Energy Trade
Collaborating with Eneco Energy Trade and S4 Energy, we facilitated the implementation of a product extension, transitioning from FCR-only batteries to FCR stacked with aFRR trading functionality. This expansion encompassed two batteries—S4 Almelo and S4 Heerhugowaard—both leveraging lithium-ion BESS systems in conjunction with mechanical flywheels. Each asset boasted a capacity of approximately 10MW with a one-hour depth.
-
Lelystad's Geothermal District Heating Expansion
Vattenfall Netherlands
Vattenfall manages the district heating network in Lelystad, serving over 6000 residents. This initiative aimed to diversify heat sources to geothermal. We assisted in the project's business case management, closely collaborating with technical engineering and project development teams to determine the financial valuation of the geothermal expansion. The successful integration ensures a sustainable and locally-sourced energy supply for the city.
-
BESS Market Validation: New Zealand Perspective
Helios Energy
In the early stages of market exploration and valuation for Helios' venture into the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sector, we conducted the initial market scan. Our work included defining potential revenue streams within the New Zealand electricity market, encompassing wholesale arbitrage, FIR and SIR markets, congestion management, and more.
-
Belgium Battery Strategy: HEMS Partner Selection
Sungevity International | ENGIE Belgium
Supporting ENGIE Belgium and Sungevity International, we conducted a due diligence assessment of Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) for residential battery integration in Belgium. This project, focused on identifying systems capable of behind-the-meter energy management for households, with an emphasis on maximizing battery potential. By evaluating technical compatibility and energy storage capabilities, we helped lay the foundation for a robust HEMS strategy to enhance Belgium’s residential energy flexibility.
-
Polynesian Solar and BESS: A Future without Electricity Grids
NexGen | NZIER
In collaboration with Polynesian stakeholders, we conducted an economic assessment titled Polynesian Pathways: A Future without Electricity Grids. This project focused on analyzing the pricing viability of solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Tonga, Samoa, and the Cook Islands. By running comparative Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) analyses for solar and BESS developments, we evaluated the economic potential of grid-independent solutions against existing electricity prices, supporting a vision for resilient, grid-free energy infrastructure in the region. -
PPA Acquisition Due Diligence: South Pacific Commercial Solar
solarZero
This project centered on assessing the financial feasibility of acquiring existing commercial solar Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) across various South Pacific islands. By developing the business models and valuation tools, we evaluated the potential returns and identified key risks associated with these PPA to determine whether to make an acquisition of these projects.
